Managing Editor - Trade Books Front List

 

 

We have a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Editor to work on the Front list of this well-known and popular trade imprint of highly illustrated books and online products.  Reporting to the Department Publisher of the Creative Division, this role will work closely with the Managing Art Editor and will oversee a small team of editorial staff. Team creative projects, including sales an marketing materials, and will acquire content for the list.  You will inspire and lead development of new presentations and product ideas, as well as maximise resources through skills training, collaboration and sharing of content.

This is a key role within the division and is a fabulous opportunity to work on some fantastic titles. Some of the core responsibilities will involve:

 

  • Overseeing the commissioning, development and origination of new print and digital products for the global trade markets and custom and special clients.
  • Oversee trade updates of digital products as required.
  • Ensure the editorial team has a thorough understanding of, and is committed to presenting information in a unique, integrated arrangement of words and pictures, that is adaptable to subject matter.

Other areas of responsibility will include. Overseeing the level at which origination budgets are controlled, and the level at which schedules are controlled. You will ensure that brand values and product quality are fully supported and guide/advise editorial staff in all aspects of work and performance.  This role will give you an in-depth knowledge of the company`s core customer and key territory requirements and global publishing model.

 

The successful person will be of graduate calibre or equivalent, and will have demonstrable relevant editorial experience, ideally from an illustrated trade publishing background. You will have hands-off project and team leadership skills and a thorough understanding of all print and digital publishing processes, from initial concept through to presentation, title appraisal  sign-off and WIP to RAP (or equivalent) date.  Strong communication, collaboration and people management skills are essential.
