About Us: Sweet Cherry Publishing is an independent children’s book publisher based in Leicester. We are a small team with a big mission! We believe that all children should have access to great stories and endeavour to break down the barriers which often get in the way of reading. We are proud of our Leicester heritage and work very closely with the local community to increase literacy rates and promote reading for pleasure. The Role:
This role is a flexible role encompassing all parts of Marketing and Publicity. You are a team player willing to pitch in where needed and work hard to develop and grow this small business. You will be a self-starter who does not require a great deal of hand-holding.  Training will be given in terms of systems and processes but you will be expected to already be competent with all areas of the job description. 

We are looking for someone who can drive the business forward by developing our marketing department and creating publicity strategies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Working alongside the Marketing and Sales Assistant (who would report directly to you) you will be:

  • Devising and executing marketing and publicity plans for key series/ titles
  • Working with PR agencies for campaign delivery
  • Managing digital communications across social (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin) and digital channels including newsletter campaigns
  • Using Indesign or Illustrator to design marketing material, including advertisements, digital content and POS material 
  • Experience in market research and understanding digital analytics
  • Experience with Google Advertising and Amazon PPC advertising
  • Managing marketing budgets for the entire portfolio and digital resources (social channels/ PPC)
  • Managing and updating the Sweet Cherry website (hosted on WordPress)
  • Managing an online community of online influencers (e.g. book and parent influencers)
  • Deliver confident internal and external digital presentations of marketing plans 
  • Organising and planning author events, festivals and conferences
  • Working closely with the sales team to maximise exposure of Sweet Cherry Publishing titles
  • Working collaboratively with editorial, sales and digital teams
  • Liaising with partners and external companies
  • Working closely with style guides and delivering design briefs
  • To act, where appropriate, as an ambassador for the company, presenting new titles and marketing plans at sales, retail and library conferences, for example
  • To communicate marketing plans and activity in-house, and to authors, illustrators and agents
  • Able to prioritise and multitask, often in a deadline-driven environment

Skills and Knowledge: 

  • Good copy-writing, proof-reading, design and project management skills
  • Experience of marketing or promoting products across online and offline channels
  • Knowledge of community building, social media, email, online advertising, SEO, websites
  • Experience of budget management
  • Experience of product or brand marketing
  • The ability to multitask and work on several different projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good copy-writing, proof-reading, design and project management skills
  • Excellent time-management and people skills
  • Excellent Adobe Creative Suite skills specifically Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, After Effects
  • Competence with Google sheets, docs and slides

Essential Skills and Knowledge: 

  • Minimum of 3+ years experience in Marketing and Publicity in publishing (or a related industry)
  • Good knowledge of children’s books
  • An enjoyment of books and reading

Working Hours: 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 8 hours a day
(30 minute or 1-hour lunch break unpaid)

Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays

Salary: TBC, Negotiable based on experience
