Production and Design Controller

A leading publisher of illustrated history and non-fiction titles is looking for a Production and Design Controller to join their Production and Design team and project-manage titles through the production process. This role is based in their Oxford office and combines both design and production responsibilities.

Key duties:

• Project-manage a list of titles through an XML-based workflow
• Project costing, preparing titles for print and digital editions, and print buying
• Correct the layouts for a list of titles and other minor design work
• Work closely with our in-house Editorial, Sales and Marketing departments and external suppliers
• Ensure that projects are produced on schedule, to high quality standards and within budget

Experience / skills required:

• A background in books production is essential for this role
• You must be familiar with working on illustrated titles
• Proven print buying experience (mono and colour) is required
• You will have a good understanding of the full production life cycle
• A keen eye for detail is essential
• Formal copy-editing and proof-reading training is desirable
• You will have good IT skills (Office/InDesign/Photoshop in particular) are essential
