Production Controller

Our Production Department focuses on supporting a number of interfacing teams in the delivery of numerous individual projects that make up the overall publishing plan providing production processes that allow for flexibility, creative problem solving and last minute change which are part of the fabric of ELT publishing.

 

The role would suit an individual who combines a strong eye for detail and accuracy with an open minded and solution focused approach.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide estimates for inclusion on Profit and Loss
  • Buying page layout/typesetting and repro if required
  • Buying print (mono and colour)
  • Advising publishing staff on production issues including the properties of different paper types
  • Monitoring production quality
  • Updating production systems
  • Checking, coding and ensuring invoices are processed as soon as possible
  • Ensuring that all printed and digital product reaches the archive as quickly as possible and that the title file for the archive is up to date.
  • Deputising for other Production staff and providing holiday cover when required
  • Liaise with Publishers and Commissioning Editors as necessary to enable Production’s contribution to the Business Plans.
  • Work to cost targets as set by FD and  Head of Production
  • Preparing costs & margins for the Investment Approval process, which is signed off by the Finance and Publishing Directors

 

Experience, skills and qualifications

  • Good standard of education including Maths and English
  • Proven production experience, preferably working with an Educational publisher
  • Experience of multimedia production
  • Strong evidence of successful team working and building relationships
  • Excellent numeracy
  • Effective written and oral communication, with  experience of dealing effectively with a range of external contacts, in a global context
  • Understanding and awareness of print processes
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Basic understanding of InDesign Creative Suite and CTP
  • Capable of quickly learning new software including bespoke internal systems
