Production Editor

An established professional society based in central London is looking for a Production Editor with excellent copy-editing and proofreading skills and solid experience of book publishing processes either online or print to work on their print and online products. This position is a two year fixed term contract due to an internal secondment.

Key duties:

  • Oversee the editorial production of books from reception of manuscripts through to delivery
  • Edit, proofread and check proofs, format and collate material, ensuring consistent application of house style 
  • Manage freelancers/suppliers maintaining agreed schedule and budget and high quality standard     
  • Check eBooks, converting files and uploading content and keep databases up-to-date
  • Deal with permission requests, raising invoices and liaising with colleagues on pricing
  • Liaise with internal colleagues to ensure smooth delivery to appropriate standard
  • Liaise with authors and provide guidance on production editorial processes

Experience / skills required:

  • Experience in a production editorial role, within professional book publishing
  • Good knowledge of book publishing processes and legal/professional publishing markets
  • Proven skills in copy-editing and proofreading with high level of accuracy
  • Experience of managing freelancers and suppliers
  • Strong IT skills including Word and experience with electronic mark-up (XML or HTML) and desktop programs
  • Solid organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and work to deadlines
  • A keen eye for detail and a meticulous, collaborative and flexible approach to work
  • Good communication skills with the ability to deal with stakeholders at all levels
