Production Editor - Books

Are you a publishing professional, with a degree in life sciences, or experience in medical publishing? Are you looking for a new challenge with a highly respected brand. Due to continued growth, a global academic publisher  is recruiting a Production Editor to join the team of one of their highly successful science brands.

This is a great opportunity to join an established list working across a broad range of books. This role will have a strong editorial element within it and the Production Editor will work closely with authors, working on the production of new  science titles and other subject areas, from manuscript through to delivery. This is not an ordinary production editor role as this position will work very closely with the editorial team and is a more creative role. .

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assess the quality of text for production
  • Work with authors and commissioning editors
  • Working to deadlines, effectively prioritising workloads
  • Negotiate fees whilst managing freelancers and external suppliers
  • Controlling schedules, budgets and end product quality
  • Providing relevant information and support to authors and suppliers
  • Preparing material for text and cover printers

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A science degree, preferably in a life science, or experience within scientific publishing
  • Proven publishing experience, within a production or editorial environment
  • Experience in MS Office
  • Experience of working in book or journal publishing
  • Excellent proofreading skills
  • Superb multi-tasking and organization capability
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, verbal and written
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Experience working to deadlines and with budgets
