Publications Manager

 

An interesting opening has arisen with a B2B publishing company who produce authoritative, up to date and practical publications for businesses, health and social care and educational establishments.  They produce clear and simple publications and seminars, to help organisations comply with their legal obligations and guidance.

They are now looking o recruit an entrepreneurial Commissioning Editor to join their successful publishing team, to develop, launch and manage new publications (subscriptions and one offs)in new markets, and to maximise profitability of new and existing products, by maximising financial performance and working with marketing.  The role will also ensure that the publications are published to budget, to schedule and to the highest quality to meet customer requirements.

This is a key role in the team and will report to the Head of Publishing; some of the responsibilities will include: Researching, developing, testing and launching new products in new markets, in line with company business objectives.  You will ensure that the appropriate quality checks and approval of all materials prior to editing/typesetting and printing/replication are carried out and all financial checks are undertaken accurately to ensure maximum value for money, to monitor the profitability of all products and keep within budget.  You will also be involved with creating/monitoring product marketing plans/sales forecasts to review the marketing for products and propose new target groups and marketing strategies.

Other responsibilities will involve ensuring that new suppliers, technology and processes are assessed to see if they represent better value for money and greater benefit to customers, and also undertake other duties as required.

This is a great role with the potential to develop and the successful person will be educated to degree level ideally with experience of B2B or STM publishing, and/or commissioning experience, especially with knowledge of the medical, educational/academic or the built environment, plus some knowledge of subscription publishing.  You will have leadership skills, be self-motivated with the entrepreneurial ability to identify, research and quickly get to grips with opportunities in new markets, to develop must-have new product concepts.  You should be highly organised with meticulous attention to detail, with an ability to prioritise and work to deadlines and a proven ability to network, influence and negotiate with experts, authors and suppliers.  It is important that you have financial acumen in order to monitor profitability plans and manage a budget.
