Publicist, Palgrave Macmillan

Macmillan Science and Education is seeking an experienced Publicist to support Palgrave Macmillan books worldwide.
 

We are the publisher of prestigious brands including Nature, Palgrave Macmillan and Scientific American. The communications team works to maintain and develop our reputation for excellence, innovation, and partnership with the community.

The Publicist supports key scholarly and professional titles, by developing and executing successful campaigns in the US and UK, while strengthening media relations and the Palgrave brand. This is a hands-on role, with sole responsibility for Palgrave Macmillan’s book publicity, as part of a supportive communications team. You will develop and execute global publicity plans on a full list of humanities and social science professional and scholarly books and content including history, politics, current affairs, and business titles.

 

You will secure national and international publicity in broadcast and print media, book speaking engagements and bookstore signings, and media appearances. You will be an excellent writer, preparing press releases and pitches. You will also be confident pitching on the phone and working closely with high-profile authors and colleagues around the business. You’ll be equally happy dealing with review copy requests, monitoring and reporting on coverage.
 

The successful applicant will have a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent and demonstrable experience in a communications environment. You will have good knowledge of trade and general media, and established relationships with major national media contacts. We’re looking for a proven ability to generate creative angles and pitches and an understanding of the digital media space, including bloggers and social media. A self-starter and a team-player, the successful applicant will be highly professional with the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. Strong networking skills and excellent communication skills are essential.

 

This position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and will require some international travel.
