A highly successful global academic publishing company is now seeking an ambitious Journals Publisher to join their busy team based in Toyko covering science, technology and social sciences topics.

 

The Publisher will be responsible for the expansion and development of our portfolio of journals within Japan and encourage its further growth. Core responsibilities will include:

    • Developing and driving acquisitions and commissioning tenders and bids for both subscription and open access journals
    • Building strong and valuable relationships with external clients, academic editors, societies and internal colleagues
    • Financial planning and management
    • Encouraging organic portfolio growth
    • Presenting at editorial board and business meetings
    • Representing the company at a senior level at conferences and events, maintaining and growing their business and reputation further

 

The successful candidate will have significant experience in academic journal publishing with an understanding of how to grow and nurture a commercially successful list. With an existing network in Japan, and fluent in Japanese, the ideal candidate will have fantastic communication skills, a strong commercial acumen and the ability to demonstrate and tackle the challenges facing journal publishing, particularly within the Japanese market.
