We have been retained by a leading publisher of  academic and professional books aimed at the upper level undergraduate/postgraduate market to recruit an experienced , commercially driven and market focused individual to  take full responsibility and drive forward this  innovative list. This popular list offers an opportunity to commission and lead not just ground breaking and industry leading titles, but also develop some of their most innovative publishing initiatives, as your responsibilities will include the continued growth of a highly significant product portfolio and the development of a new generation of print and media products across the list.

Based in London  and reporting to the Publishing Director, responsibilities of the Publisher role will involve:

 

  • Agree a strong and solid publishing plan and commissioning priorities with the Publishing Director
  • Achieve signing targets together with the Publishing Director
  • Work with Marketing and Sales teams to achieve sales targets
  • Be responsible for driving the list strategy, planning and financial management of the Business list
  • Champion and monitor front-list and backlist performance
  • Work with authors and colleagues to ensure high quality and timely publications.
  • Work with colleagues to develop and deliver high quality, timely media and custom-published products and services.

 

This is a highly significant role within the company and the successful person will have demonstrable and relevant Commissioning experience from an academic or professional publishing background.  You may already be in a Publisher position from a similar background looking for the next challenge and a different set of responsibilities and daily challenges.  You will be a pro-active individual, and have the commercial awareness and confidence to take on this exciting role on a high-profile list. You should be able to understand and act quickly upon market developments, new trends and potential business opportunities; be market-focused and able to build strong personal networks in the relevant market communities.  Being able to plan, synthesize, position and pitch first new editions to colleagues and to the market is also essential as will be the ability to develop and project manage print and media products.  This role will carry a direct line report.This position carries a competitive salary and benefits package with the opportunity of growing within the company.
