Publisher (STM Journals)

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Publisher to join the publishing department of a prestigious scientific society based in central London.  Working closely with the Head of Publishing, the Publisher will be responsible for guiding publishing strategy and leading the editorial and production teams.

 

Key duties:

  • Contribute to the strategic development of the publishing department
  • Lead the editorial development of the publishing portfolio in line with strategy and targets
  • Regularly monitor and develop processes to ensure delivery of cost-effective, high-quality products
  • Responsible for setting and monitoring annual budgets and business plans
  • Through continuous development of the list, ensure growth of its global profile and reputation
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing to seek out and maximise new opportunities
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with the scientific community and represent the company at conferences and events in the UK and internationally
  • Lead and manage the editorial and production teams, including facilitating communication and managing staff performance

 

Experience / skills required:

  • A degree or equivalent in a scientific subject is required and a PhD would be advantageous
  • Demonstrable experience in a strategic editorial role in STM journals publishing
  • Significant experience of managing commissioning activities and portfolio development
  • A proactive and strategic approach to developing new business
  • Excellent team management, communication and relationship building skills
  • Extensive knowledge of publishing policy, procedures and practice
  • Experience working with Editorial Boards and committees and the ability to effectively manage meetings
