Publishing Programme Manager

We are looking to recruit an experienced Publishing Programme Manager for a highly respected Membership Organisation. Based in Hertfordshire, this brand new role will assume overall management of the publishing programme for associated guidance material. 

The role will primarily focus on ensuring that processes and resources are in place to enable publications to be delivered on time and to schedule across a major portfolio. The role will also coordinate and schedule all content and author contributions and coordinate and manage all peer reviews and amendments for the portfolio and the associated Guidance Notes.

This is a new role and is key to the publishing team. 

Main responsibilities will involve:

  • Managing, monitoring and maintaining the Standards Publishing programme
  • Closely liaise with Panel Secretaries in order to obtain content for next edition
  • Prepare Master draft from the various Chapters and Sections obtained from Panel Secretaries
  • Prepare draft for public comment
  • Arrange proof reading, printing and distribution of draft in both electronic form and hard copy
  • Produce book incorporating all agreed changes and arrange publication
  • Manage schedules, authors, contracts and relationships with production to bring products to publication ensuring that the publishing programme targets are hit.
  • Work with Editorial, Production, Marketing and Sales processes to ensure delivery of products on time
  • Liaise externally with graphic designers to ensure images are on time for inclusion

This is core role within the department and the ideal candidate will have demonstrable evidence of managing publishing programmes, which meet their targets; experience of commissioning and managing publishing product for a scientific and/or technical market – ideally in a compliance environment. You will need the ability to engage and work with high-profile authors and editors and able to manage your workload to meet timescales, budgets and deliverables.

This role will work with a wide and varied range of people; both internally and externally, therefore strong interpersonal skills are key. Some knowledge of engineering would be beneficial but this is not essential. Standards and project management experience is core to this role as are organisation, time management and the ability to coordinate the work of different people on a variety of products, as is a good knowledge of publishing.
