Publishing Sales Manager

 

Reporting to the Director of Professional Development & Publishing within BPP University’s School of Health, this challenging role offers an opportunity for an individual with exceptional sales and business development skills to help build the external client base for BPP School of Health titles and grow revenue in this exciting and rapidly growing part of the BPP business. This is a real opportunity for the right candidate to work towards becoming a key member of the School of Health’s team.

 

PRINCIPAL JOB ELEMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development

 

New business generation constitutes the largest part of this role with the successful candidate being responsible for growing the sales of medical career, study and reference material into institutions across the UK. The role is national and therefore the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible in their approach to travel.  The customer base is the medical education and book-trade sectors.

 

The role will involve proactively identifying new opportunities to sell the expanding portfolio of School of Health titles and for promoting the brand. The successful candidate would be expected to build good relationships with key decision-makers and consistently succeed in gaining new business, as well as growing and maintaining existing business streams. The successful candidate will be able to knowledgably select and promote the most appropriate School of Health titles over our competitors’ products, matching customer needs and expectations.  

 

Maintain and grow business

 

The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining existing business through regular communication and relationship management and to leverage sales through our distributor NBN and trade sales agency Compass.  This will also involve identifying further opportunities with existing customers, cross-selling other School of Health titles and up-selling where possible.

 

Sales & Marketing Administration

 

The department has a programme of marketing communications developed in conjunction with BPP’s central marketing team; the successful candidate will contribute towards the development of a database of target organisations and the development of marketing communications to help increase the effectiveness of our promotional activities.  The role will also include regular and accurate reporting of sales data along with data analysis to help better target sales resource.

 

Other responsibilities

 

Contributing to product development through market feedback reports, identifying opportunities for new products and making any market information available to the production department, attending conferences and other relevant events.

 

Skills, knowledge, qualifications required for role

With a willingness to travel in the UK, the successful candidate will find the use of a vehicle almost imperative in order to manage appointments; they should therefore possess a full clean UK driver’s licence.

Publishing sales experience, particularly in the medical sector would be a distinct advantage, but the successful candidate will demonstrate understanding of the requirements of a sales role and the aptitude to fulfil the role. Experience of successful business development and growth is a must.
