Senior Commissioning Editor (12 month contract)
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Commissioning Editor or Senior Commissioning Editor to join a leading trade publisher on a 12 month contract. Working on an exciting list of commercial non-fiction titles including celebrity biographies and popular culture, you will be responsible for the development of designated lists and working closely with key authors and agents.
Key duties:
- Evaluate and progress publishing plans and proposals
- Maintain and build relationships with authors and agents, develop author lists
- Ensure the viability and profitability of acquisitions, including P & L estimates and contract negotiations
- Attract and retain key authors and provide excellent author care
- Represent titles at interdepartmental and external meetings
- Keep up-to-date with market trends and seek out new publishing opportunities
Experience / skills required:
- Proven book publishing experience in an Editor level position
- Experience of working with authors and agents
- Strong project management experience with solid organisation and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail with copyediting and proofreading experience
- A demonstrable understanding of the external marketplace
