Senior Commissioning Editor (12 month contract)

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Commissioning Editor or Senior Commissioning Editor to join a leading trade publisher on a 12 month contract. Working on an exciting list of commercial non-fiction titles including celebrity biographies and popular culture, you will be responsible for the development of designated lists and working closely with key authors and agents.

 

Key duties:

  • Evaluate and progress publishing plans and proposals
  • Maintain and build relationships with authors and agents, develop author lists
  • Ensure the viability and profitability of acquisitions, including P & L estimates and contract negotiations
  • Attract and retain key authors and provide excellent author care
  • Represent titles at interdepartmental and external meetings
  • Keep up-to-date with market trends and seek out new publishing opportunities

 

Experience / skills required:

  • Proven book publishing experience in an Editor level position
  • Experience of working with authors and agents
  • Strong project management experience with solid organisation and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail with copyediting and proofreading experience
  • A demonstrable understanding of the external marketplace
