Senior Editor / Editor, Pop Culture (Illustrated Non-fiction)

An opportunity has arisen at one of the UK's most exciting independent publishers, which specialises in creating wonderfully crafted illustrated books.

Our partner is looking for an experienced Senior Editor / Editor to join their team and be responsible for delivering the pop culture and wider entertainment list: including music, film and graphic novels.

In this role, you will create and oversee complex projects; including collaborating with and briefing authors, illustrators, designers, and all freelancers. You will be responsible for a range of exciting titles end to end, ensuring to keep to schedule and within budget. 

The successful candidate will have excellent sense delivering visual impact, a strong commercial focus, and extensive knowledge of illustrated co-edition publishing. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Identify potential book projects that align with the goals and target audience of the company.
  • Manage a list for the adult colour-illustrated market in the areas of pop culture, music, film, graphic novels and wider entertainment. 
  • Create and manage both the frontlist and backlist programme for the entertainment list. 
  • Recognise industry trends, market demands, customer feedback and competitor activities to stay informed and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Negotiate acquisitions and contracts. 

Experience and skills required:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience working in Editorial in publishing, ideally in pop culture genres. 
  • Ability to conceive and deliver projects hands on 
  • Commercial awareness and knowledge of co-edition colour-illustrated publishing. 
  • Strong communication skills, and able to collaborate in a fast moving entrepreneurial environment. 
  • Proficient using InDesign.
