Senior Publisher (contract)

A leading educational publisher based in central London is looking for a Senior Publisher for a 1 year maternity cover contract, starting in October.  You’ll have responsibility for developing new print and digital products across the primary English and Humanities subject lists.

 

Key duties:

  • Develop strategic plans for your lists including instigating and commissioning new projects for teaching and learning / curriculum resources
  • Commissioning print and digital project, taking advantage of new technologies
  • Influencing and shaping the strategic direction of the publishing activity, especially for new markets, international and custom opportunities
  • Line management of 2 staff 
  • Prepare and agree frontlist, backlist and online sales and margin budgets and forecasts and responsibility for meeting budgets
  • Maintain and develop strategic partnerships with third parties
  • Maintain detailed market and customer knowledge and identify opportunities

Experience / skills required:

  • Solid commissioning editorial experience within schools educational book publishing is essential
  • Good track record of building and managing a list of content across print and digital – ideally in primary education
  • Excellent project management experience including setting budgets across a list
  • Some line management experience is required
  • Commercially aware and financially astute
  • Effective and persuasive communicator with internal stakeholders and high level of author care
  • Good knowledge of the UK education market and current trends
