Temp Editor/Subeditor
An STM association in central London, is looking to appoint a Temp Editor/Sub Editor to write and commission high quality content and to support the production of their monthly journal. This is a temp role starting immediately for approx. 1 month while they recruit for the permanent position.
Key duties:
- Produce high quality content, keeping up to date on latest industry developments and reporting on news
- Commission relevant content from internal and external authors, conducting interviews and researching story leads
- Proofread and subedit content ensuring high-quality standards and house style guidelines are met
- Oversee the production process of print journal, managing workflow and liaising with colleagues to ensure timely delivery
- Edit and rewrite copy for online publication, using CMS to publish content on website
- Act as key contact for the journal across the association, travelling to network events when required and building strong relationships
Experience / skills required:
- Solid experience working in a production editorial/editorial/writing role within STM publishing is required
- Proven records of writing life science or clinical related news and features for print and online publications
- Knowledge of print and digital production processes within publishing is essential
- Excellent writing, subediting and proofing skills with an outstanding command of English
- Solid organisational skills with the ability to manage workload and multitask
- Strong communication and networking skills
- Good IT skills including MS Office and Adobe CS and a working knowledge of CMS
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a life science subject, with a science journalism qualification ideally
