Senior Managing Editor - Charity

A leading charity who promote safety in the community is looking to recruit an experienced Managing Editor to be responsible for delivering and developing the charity’s rolling programme of quality, research-led and public-facing publications and information. Their publications and information provision is diverse and mainly online, ranging from PDF reports to videos, for global, UK and other domestic audiences.

This is an exciting and interesting area to work in as the charity is communications and campaign-led and the role is central in the charity, as their reputation hangs on the accuracy and professional presentation of their publications and presentation tools.  The charity is poised to launch its global website which will provide an international gateway to their publications and information and is an exciting time to join them in a senior role.

Key duties of the role include:

  • Managing a rolling plan of production and being responsive to emerging needs and opportunities.
  • Brief, oversee and act as senior editor for the team members’ work
  • Develop the charity’s quality processes for editorial production
  • Develop the sustainability of their publications and information provision, through funding channels such as grants/sponsorship
  • Develop their partnership approach, working with external academic and practitioner contributors
  • Develop the accessibility of the publications and information tools, particularly online presentation
  • Undertake writing projects
  • Along with the line manager, take responsibility for developing the charity’s knowledge base and communication methodologies

The successful candidate will have a strong background at senior editorial level from a research-led/B2B or technical publishing and will be:

  • Academically heavy-weight, with a strong background demonstrating a research publishing focus; experience and confidence in analysing information relating to science/social science and particularly statistical analysis
  • Editorially strong, with proven editorial skills from commissioning, writing, copy-editing, proofing information that can be understood by anyone, but provides significant content
  • Accuracy  and deadline driven and processed focused
  • Experienced in online content writing and editing
  • Commercially driven; comfortable liaising with funders (writing grant bids for publications/information provision and reporting to sponsors who have funded publications/information provision).

The organisation’s headquarters are located in Yorkshire, but this role also has the flexibility of working from home.  We will also consider candidates who meet all the requirements but who are looking for a part-time role.
