Managing Editor (STM journals)
We have a Managing Editor role at a prestigious scientific society in central London. You will be responsible for the management, coordination and preparation of content for the journal as well as line managing a team of two.
Key duties:
- Take responsibility for preparation and timely production of journal content
- Management of Manuscript Editor and Editorial Assistant
- Coordination of freelance editors: sending papers, checking edited papers, tracking expenditure
- Significant copy-editing of articles and close liaison with authors throughout the editorial process
- Commissioning and developing content in conjunction with the Editor
- Coordination of the online manuscript submission system and liaison with the publisher to ensure timely production of papers
- Oversight social media platforms and activities
- Travel and attend meetings and events on behalf of the society
Experience / skills required:
- Solid experience within an STM journal publishing environment, preferably medical publishing or female’s health
- Degree or equivalent in a scientific subject will be advantageous
- Strong editorial skills (substantive, redactory editing) and proof-reading experience
- Good knowledge of publishing policies and standards
- Experience with online manuscript submission system
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Solid IT skills including MS Office, Access or similar; internet skills
- Ability to work under pressure to meet monthly deadlines using own initiative
