Member Support Specialist

Our client is the leading not-for-profit membership organisation in the field of scholarly communications. They are looking for a Member Support Specialist to join their busy team, working on one of their key services to help members promote editorial integrity. This is a great, newly created role and would suit someone with customer support or editorial experience within academic or STM publishing. This role can be based in the Oxford office or home-based, depending on the candidate.

Key duties:

  • Support users and applicants via a variety of channels for a key service, as well providing as wider technical and membership support for other services as required
  • Own the administrative process for new members, acting as the main point of contact
  • Manage the onboarding process for new members, ensuring member meets are met in a professional and friendly tone
  • Identify, analyse, communicate and escalate issues to the relevant contacts internally to drive future development
  • Work closely with stakeholders to proactively communicate with members about technical issues etc.

Experience / skills required:

  • A quick learner of new technologies
  • An understanding of the editorial processes within scholarly publishing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of XML, metadata, scholarly research or information science would be advantageous
  • Additional languages, particularly Russian would be advantageous
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Experience in communicating technical issues to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to multitask in a very varied role
