Acamar Films is a London-based independent production company, founded in 2005 to create film and TV projects that move and delight audiences worldwide, and are the creators of the Emmy and Writer’s Guild Award winning, BAFTA nominated pre-school property – Bing. We produce, distribute and license Bing’s TV and digital content globally.

Purpose of the role

The Senior Publishing Manager is a new role within the company. The main purpose of this role will be to proactively develop, strategically grow and maximise the publishing category and royalty income across all facets of publishing, both within the UK and across our growing global markets.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and grow Acamar’s master book publishing programme on a global scale

  • Develop, oversee and implement a merchandising and retail publishing strategy working closely with UK Category and Retail Managers, Director of Marketing and Acamar’s agents

  • Agree rights for foreign editions and co-editions where applicable

  • Lead creation of territorial strategic plans working closely with Acamar’s agents to execute, ensuring revenue forecasts are met

  • Full responsibility for books, magazines and all existing and emerging publishing categories

  • Understand all territory needs, trends and opportunities

  • Create and regularly review a gap analysis for the publishing market to identify, negotiate and secure licensed publishing partners to achieve agreed individual revenue targets

  • Ensure full exploitation of rights granted across all existing publishing agreements

  • Work closely with the Acamar finance team to deliver financial analysis, forecasting and achieve financial targets

  • Recommend and anticipate asset requirements (artwork, covermounts, editorial, audio/sound) based on local market needs, working with PD, content/production and design teams to produce a high quality and engaging publishing programme

  • Work closely with all internal stakeholders across sales, marketing, product development, design, content/production, finance and legal teams, and Acamar appointed agents

  • Attend trade fairs and conferences as agreed with line manager

  • Full awareness of competitor activity to assist in gaining market-leading advantage

    Core Competencies

  • Significant senior experience within publishing – ideally 7 or more years

  • Excellent relationships with global and local publishers – ability to understand and anticipate international and local market publishing needs and formats

  • Experience of working with agents

  • Knowledge and understanding of licensed publishing sales, deal negotiation and process

  • Experience of working with key retailers and understanding of the retail dynamic related to publishing

  • Understanding of content creation and requirements, and ability to steer key projects

  • Experience of international rights sales and co-editions

  • Understanding of partworks and magazine requirements and complexities

  • Appreciation of territory specific publishing formats and asset requirements

  • Creative approach with the ability to “think outside of the box” in order to deliver unique and creative opportunities

  • Proactive and self-motivated whilst also being an effective team player

  • Highly organised, energetic and able to manage complex tasks independently to tight deadlines

  • Strong leadership skills to help influence and manage the best outcome for the category and overall business

  • Entrepreneurial, articulate and personable with excellent presentation, communication negotiation and influencing skills

  • Uncompromising energy, drive and focus within a very fast paced and rapidly evolving organization

  • Strong commercial acumen

  • Previous experience working with entertainment, children’s and lifestyle brands

  • Second and/or third language desirable

  • Computer literate and confident with Microsoft and Mac software

  • Must be willing to travel domestically and/or internationally as required

  • Based at Acamar Head Office (Camden)

  • Full Time permanent position

  • Core office hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm, with occasional out of office hours as and when required
