Area Sales Manager (North & Eastern England)

JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Head of Sales & Marketing, this role is an integral part of the new sales team and the continued growth of Amberley’s sales. 
 

PRINCIPAL JOB ELEMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

Business Development
New business generation constitutes a large part of the role with the successful candidate being responsible for growing the sales. A defined territory to manage will be assigned but the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible in their approach to travel. The customer base ranges from the traditional book trade to the non-traditional market eg Newsagents/Garden Centres etc
 

The role will involve proactively identifying new opportunities to sell the expanding list of Amberley Books and for promoting the brand. The successful candidate will be expected to build good relationships with key decision-makers and consistently succeed in gaining new business, as well as growing and maintaining existing business channels. The successful candidate will be able to knowledgably select and promote the most appropriate Amberley products over our competitors’ products, matching customer needs and expectations.
 

Maintain and grow business
The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining existing business through regular communication and relationship management. This will also involve identifying further opportunities with existing customers
 

Sales & Marketing Administration
The company has a database of customers, and has a programme of mailings developed in conjunction with Amberley’s Sales Office staff; the successful candidate will contribute towards the upkeep of the database and the development of marketing communications to help increase the effectiveness of our promotional activities. The role will also include regular and accurate reporting of sales data along with data analysis to help better target sales resource.
 

Other responsibilities
It is essential that the successful candidate is willing to contribute to product development through market feedback reports.  These reports will help identify opportunities for new products and making any market information available to the Sales Manager.
 

Skills, knowledge, qualifications required for job
Willingness to travel within the defined territory - the successful candidate will have the use of a vehicle almost imperative in order to manage appointments, they should therefore possess a full clean UK driver’s licence.
 

Sales experience, particularly in the publishing sector, would be a distinct advantage, but the successful candidate will demonstrate understanding of the requirements of a sales role and the aptitude to fulfil the role. Experience of successful business development and growth is a must.
