Amnesty International UK (AIUK) is renowned and respected the world over for promoting and protecting human rights. Our credibility relies on our refusal to compromise our financial independence and integrity and for this reason much of our funding depends on the contributions of our membership and fundraising activities. A fine example of this are our Amnesty bookshops, which raise money by selling second-hand donated books both on and offline.

About the role

Based in the Hammersmith Shop, you will be responsible for managing our South and East region which currently includes five Amnesty bookshops in Hammersmith, London, Brighton, Norwich, Cambridge and recently opened Kentish Town, London.  With the support of four paid members of staff and, hundreds of dedicated volunteers.  You will use your proven retail experience together with your knowledge of the book trade, to drive physical and online sales and meet our income targets.

About you

You will have proven experience of managing at least one (and ideally multi-site) retail unit to deliver results, ideally within the charity sector. Required to operate within budgetary constraints, you will be highly resourceful, able to make effective use of the stock and space available, and, of the time contributed by volunteers.  Managing a team of over a hundred volunteers you will have a passion for people management, and able to inspire those that work with you.  You will be organised, highly efficient and a problem solver with a good understanding of all aspects of managing a successful bookshop.

About us

Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, fairness, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. Already our global network of seven million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. Whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
