Commissioning Editor

Artech House is a publisher of books across the range of electronic engineering.

We are based in Boston, Massachusetts and in London. We are seeking a Commissioning Editor for our UK office. Although a background in this area or any of the hard sciences would be helpful, we will accept CVs from anyone who has commissioning experience in book publishing. 

Our primary market is professional, with a good secondary market in academic circles. The job requires research into potential authors and then the outreach to connect. One must have the sorts of skills that will enable good communication with authors and colleagues.

We are a small, independent company and our parent company Horizon House publishes magazines and puts on conferences and exhibitions worldwide Our Pimlico office has half a dozen people on that side of the business, whereas the Artech London group consists of only four people, half in sales and marketing, and the Commissioning Editor will have an assistant already in place. The upshot is that one must be comfortable in a small working group environment. The emphasis for us is to find someone with good commissioning experience.
