Commissioning Editor

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Commissioning Editor to join a not for profit organisation based in Berkshire, commutable from London. You will be responsible for the selection of popular works in non-fiction and fiction to add to their portfolio of translated works. You will be negotiating licences with publishers and rights holders to help bring the books to an audience in the Arabic speaking world to promote education and culture.

Key duties:

  • Prepare, develop and implement the planning of the publishing strategy
  • Identify market opportunities; develop effective strategies and present new proposals for acquisitions
  • Select books for their portfolio, considering suitability and viability for licencing in their market
  • Work with authors/publishers and negotiate licences
  • Develop new relationships and build relationship with existing Publishers/rights holders

Experience / skills required:

  • Solid editorial/commissioning experience within book publishing
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, ability to multitask
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate smoothly with rights holders in order to acquire suitable works
  • A passion for reading and a real desire to promote education and learning
  • Adaptable and flexible ability to work across a wide range of projects
  • Arabic language skills are not required
