Journals Publishing Manager
This Journals Publishing Manager position is an exciting, newly-created role in the expanding publishing team at a leading scientific society in central London. In this collaborative and varied role, the Journals Publishing Manager will use strong STM journals publishing experience to ensure successful day-to-day management and development of key journals within the Society’s portfolio in addition to contributing to the Society’s wider publishing strategy.
Key duties:
- Lead on day-to-day operational tasks and management of allocated journals portfolio
- Prepare and deliver development plans for assigned journals in line with each Editor-in-Chief’s strategic vision
- Manage journals budgets, and project-specific budgets on an ad hoc basis
- Work alongside stakeholders and colleagues to implement the Society’s wider publishing strategy
- Work with other teams to identify synergies in content across the Society’s activities and promote these accordingly
- Attend networking events and conferences to develop community loyalty and excellent relationships with contacts in relevant scientific communities
Experience / skills required:
- Established experience of managing a list of STM journals, including implementation of development and content commissioning plans
- Experience of managing journals budgets, and awareness of commercial issues related to journals finance
- Excellent knowledge of STM publishing, best practice, policy and procedures
- Experience of managing complex projects
- Demonstrable ability to meet targets and improve academic journal performance
- An academic background in life sciences or pharmacology would be advantageous
- Willingness to travel for conferences and events as required
