Senior Editorial Manager: Research Publications

The British Museum is seeking an experienced Senior Editorial Manager to develop, manage and deliver the programme of British Museum Research Publications, as approved by the Museum’s Research Board in terms of quality, schedule and budget.  

Key areas of responsibility:
You will be responsible for working with the Head of Research on delivering the publishing strategy for the BM Research Publications series. This will involve ensuring that publications complement Museum objectives, ideas and messages and deliver an appropriate experience for the target market. You will undertake or oversee editing to agreed house style and quality standards (including external peer review) and ensure that any necessary copyright clearances are obtained. You will also be responsible for typesetting and designing the Research Publications in Indesign following the series template. Liaising with printers directly on the production of titles, you will be negotiating prices, agreeing specifications, delivery of titles and ensuring that high printing standards are adhered to.

Person Specification:
Qualified to degree level or equivalent, you will be qualified in using Photoshop and Indesign to an advanced level. You will have significant experience in publishing, media or another editorial area, and have project management skills and experience. Excellent communication skills are essential and you must have the ability to manage and develop good relationships with external clients and customers.
