The opportunity

We are looking for a Designer to join our busy Academic and Professional Division, which publishes across a range of subjects including Philosophy, Education, Theology, Linguistics, History, Law, Drama, Film and Media, and Fashion.

The purpose of the role is to design and artwork covers, ready for print and electronic distribution, for assigned lists within division front list.

Key Responsibilities:

  • cover design of new titles across selected lists
  • generating final cover artwork (using Adobe CS) for new titles
  • liaising with editorial, marketing and production colleagues, and external suppliers on cover design, status, and schedules
  • check the quality of all images and logos, and chase in/purchase any needed replacements, securing Rights where required
  • conduct fortnightly Cover Meeting with title Editors to ensure adherence to Key Dates

Skills, knowledge, experience

  • experience of cover design for print and digital product in a relevant field
  • proven technical expertise (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat)
  • experience of managing freelance designers and illustrators
  • excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • the ability to manage a busy workload (c. 200 titles per annum)
  • a keen eye for detail
  • the confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
