The Opportunity

The newly-launched Digital Resources Division is part of the Non-Consumer Division and is developing new digital content services to expand Bloomsbury’s portfolio. The Division has launched Arcadian Library Online, Bloomsbury Collections, the award-winning Bloomsbury Fashion Central (Berg Fashion Library, the Fashion Photography Archive, Fairchild Books Library), Churchill Archive, Drama Online, Bloomsbury Popular Music, Bloomsbury Food Library, Bloomsbury Design Library and Bloomsbury Cultural History, Screen Studies, and Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of Philosophers.  Forthcoming products include Bloomsbury Architecture Library, Bloomsbury Fashion Business Cases, and more. 

This role presents a rare opportunity for the right person to create a path-breaking programme in new media, to develop digital knowledge and advance their career in a highly entrepreneurial environment, and to provide students, researchers and lecturers with works of enduring value that help shape disciplines.  

 The Role

  • Editorial management of the fashion product portfolio
  • Manage content commissioning strategy for new launches

·       Work with Digital Product Managers and Project Management teams to ensure new launches and products in development meet user needs and are developed to maximize customer value.

·       Participate in all phases of the product life cycle, with decision-making authority on issues regarding content. Additionally, contribute to setting Minimum Viable Product threshold.

  • Develop business cases for new products, from concept through to content acquisition, in cooperation with in-house and external content providers
  • Under the direction of the Digital Publisher, research and develop products relating to existing digital resources (‘upsells’), working with Editorial, when required
  • Manage market research and writing business plans for new products in line with pre-agreed revenue targets to ensure delivery to our 5-year plan
  • Work with Academic Editorial to brainstorm ideas for products within their subject areas
  • Contract negotiation and relationship management with external partners
  • Contribute to cross divisional working groups on workflow development and new content types, including multi-media.
  • Represent Bloomsbury at conferences and key library events, as required

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Self-starter, focused on the competitive landscape, who thrives on winning business and moving new ideas and products forward
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • A demonstrable ability to work well with others to advance common goals
  • An understanding of the value of the editorial process to product success
  • Content commissioning experience
  • Ability to manage a busy workload, prioritise and delegate
  • Ability to work with stakeholders both within and outside the business

 

Desirable

  • A successful track record of working with external partners
  • Experience of licensing content
  • Some familiarity with digital learning environments, business models and workflows
  • An interest in or knowledge of fashion studies curriculum/student needs would be a distinct advantage
  • Experience overseeing large, complicated projects
