Marketing Assistant

Main purpose of the role:

We are looking for a Marketing Assistant to join our award-winning Academic books division. You will be working in a pivotal support role for the busy Academic Marketing department, assisting across our range of books from textbooks to trade crossover titles to monographs. Our brands include The Arden Shakespeare, Methuen Drama, I.B. Tauris and T&T Clark, and our authors include Theodor Adorno, Mary Beard, Bertolt Brecht, Martin Heidegger, Mary Midgley, Arthur Miller, Rachel Reeves and Slavoj Žižek. This role reports into the Senior Marketing Manager, Academic Marketing.

Key responsibilities

•    Departmental:

  • Conference/event administration e.g. bookings, couriers, floats, packing materials, recording sales post event
  • Managing customer service inbox/es and phone for marketing requests and general enquiries 
  • Customer data (CRM) management, including importing new contacts and logging mailing returns
  • Maintenance of the marketing materials archive and office supplies

•    Assistance to humanities marketers, currently:

  • 2 Senior Marketing Managers and their reports (currently Visual Arts; Philosophy, Anthropology and Food Studies; Education, Linguistics, Music & Sound Studies; Middle East and Politics)

Assistance for the above includes:

  • Day-to-day production of marketing materials, such as marketing flyers and posters
  • Deployment of marketing emails, to a creative brief provided by marketer 
  • Updating the website
  • Producing sales materials as required, such as stocklists and promotional materials
  • Review plans and sending gratis copies as required
  • Producing reports on request
  • Any other task as reasonably required 

Person specification - Knowledge, qualifications and experience

Essential
•    Relevant qualification or experience in publishing and/or marketing, ideally within academic environment (can include work experience)
•    Experience of working in an office environment
•    Excellent organisational and time management skills 
•    Outstanding attention to detail
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel & Word 
•    A can-do attitude and enthusiasm for supporting team members

Desirable
•    Experience in a customer service role
•    Experience working with administrative systems and/or databases
•    Events management experience
•    Knowledge of ESP and/or CMS software
•    Knowledge of the Adobe Suite
