Marketing Manager

The opportunity
Bloomsbury Publishing is recruiting for an experienced Marketing Manager to work on our diverse film and media studies books from our award-winning Academic division. Our portfolio of film and media studies books ranges from introductory textbooks and prestigious series for film fans to multi-volume reference works. 

Reporting in to the Senior Marketing Manager, this role will suit a creative and confident person with experience in relationship management, marketing communications, digital marketing and academic publishing.

The role 

  • Responsible for list strategy, marketing plans, spend and budget for the film & media studies list
  • Implement all aspects of marketing plans for the film and media studies list, including: collaboration with external organisations (e.g. societies); direct mail; email marketing; web marketing; social media; publicity and review copies; academic and industry (e.g. film) conferences and events; print and online advertising; author care; sales materials 
  • Help devise and implement digital strategies for our various digital channels including social media, blogs, website, search and digital (incl. PPC) advertising, including the creation of digital assets
  • Development and execution of content-based marketing and targeted email marketing
  • Input into departmental strategy and processes
  • Potential management of key relationships with the media and execute PR campaigns for key titles across the department

Skills, knowledge, experience
Essential  

  • 3+ years’ books marketing experience within academic publishing
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with key clients/organisations, demonstrating a positive attitude and diplomacy
  • Presentation skills
  • Knowledge of web analytics tools, SEO, and social media monitoring platforms
  • Degree educated or equivalent 
  • Direct experience of organising and carrying out all or most of the following:

    o    Budgeting/planning and monitoring budget spend
    o    Direct mail campaigns, including commissioning design, mail and print
    o    Digital marketing by email, web, social media and PPC
    o    Publicising trade titles in the mainstream media
    o    Conference attendance/planning/producing lists/organising inserts
    o    Proofreading and copywriting
    o    Analysis of campaign results

Desirable

  • A knowledge and love of films and TV
  • Publicity and press communications experience and proven ability to develop relationships with the mainstream media
