Founded in South Florida by Mitchell Kaplan in 1982, Books & Books expanded their highly respected, independent bookstores to Camana Bay in 2007. The shop has become a haven for booklovers across Cayman, offering an unparalleled selection of titles, magazines and unique gift ideas. Regular literary events, including an International Visiting Author Series, weekly children’s storytelling, poetry evenings and book clubs, make the store a popular community gathering place.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for an individual with creativity and innovation, a commitment to customer service at the highest level and extensive product knowledge.  A passion for books, flexibility, energy and excellent organization skills are also essential. Key components of this management position would include:

  • Overseeing day to day operations of the store.
  • Monitoring cash flow, inventory, and security controls.
  • Monitoring daily and weekly sales; analyze reports to ensure monthly sales budget is achieved. 
  • Monitor the quality of customer service throughout the store.
  • Supervise, direct, counsel, and assist all associates.
  • Assist in interviewing, selecting and training associates.
  • Maximize sales and profits, while minimizing controllable expenses.
  • Maintaining a commitment to a strong community presence. 
  • Overseeing bookstore events.
  • Establishing relationships with wholesalers and distributors.

Required Experience and Skills

  • At least five years of experience within the bookstore industry, including management level.
  • Strong analytical skills, and ability to utilize business reports and industry and competitor knowledge to consistently identify opportunities to drive sales.
  • Ability to assess situations, customize solutions and communicate plans to direct reports in order to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to coordinate, communicate and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work on the selling floor, requiring physical activity.
  • Flexible schedule - must be able to work a flexible schedule involving 7 day / early morning, evening, weekend and holiday availability.
  • Experience with POS systems, inventory management systems & merchandising experience in a fast paced, results driven organization.

Salary will be in the range of US$60,000 - $67,000 plus an annual performance bonus and attractive benefits package.
