Senior Executive Publisher, Head of Humanities

About the role:
Cambridge University Press is looking for an experienced and talented publisher to lead a team of Editors in the Academic books division in Cambridge and New York. In addition to leading the Editorial team, there is an expectation that you will have some direct commissioning responsibilities in literature.

 

At a time of great change in the Academic publishing landscape, we are looking for somebody with the knowledge and vision to bring new publishing models to market whilst respecting the core values of Humanities scholarship and learning.

 

The Humanities list – comprising lists in literature, drama, music, philosophy, religious studies, classical studies and archaeology – is one of the most respected scholarly book programmes worldwide. It publishes c350 titles per annum, ranging from research monographs to undergraduate surveys, scholarly reference / editions to academic trade.

 

Reporting to the Publishing Director, Humanities and Social Sciences, this position offers a rare opportunity to join the senior editorial team in books and journals of one of the world’s leading university presses. The position will be based in Cambridge.

 

About you:
Leading a team of editors based in Cambridge and New York, the successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A proven track-record of successful strategic planning
  • The ability to identify market needs, and to plan and deliver suitable publishing to drive growth and a greater digital presence within the market
  • The ability to manage a transatlantic team
  • A solid background in the commissioning, development, and delivery of high-quality books for an international readership
  • Support for growing the journals list in the Humanities
  • The ability to work as part of a senior editorial management team and to work collaboratively with colleagues from other departments
