Managing Editor - DK Children's (maternity cover)

DK is looking for a Managing Editor on DK’s Children’s list. You'll work on titles on subjects ranging from animals to yoga and from art to space, as part of a dynamic, creative, fast-paced, and friendly team. This is an amazing opportunity to help lead part of a growing list.

As Managing Editor you will:

·         manage and develop a large team of editors, ensuring books are brought in on schedule and to budget, alongside your design partner

·         quality control every spread for every book and all jackets

·         develop presentation work on future titles

·         present titles at launches and sales fairs

·         be responsible for financial appraisals of your list

·         work effectively with production, sales, marketing and other departments across the company

·         work with the Delhi team to ensure smooth working processes between Delhi and London

·         ensure sales material is complete and metadata is the best it can be for all titles

·         deal with queries from other parts of the business in a timely manner

You will be:

·         passionate about children’s publishing

·         an individual who has a sound understanding of children’s publishing and current competition and trends

·         a supportive and effective people manager with excellent interpersonal skills

·         an experienced editor with a keen editorial eye

·         creative with a strong eye for the visual and a sense of what works for children’s illustrated reference books

·         organised, with the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise your own workload, as well as that of your team, and juggle multiple deadlines

·         a skilled communicator, and amenable and adaptable

·         fully Mac-literate
