Job vacancy for a Publicist, Daunt Books Publishing

We are looking for a Publicist to join our publishing department part-time. This is an exciting role for someone who is ready to take the next step in their career and direct publicity for a successful and ambitious literary imprint.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, unflappable, and hands-on, with excellent contacts, a solid knowledge of the publishing industry, and the adaptability and nous to work at a small independent publisher.

Job description:

  • Planning, managing and executing publicity campaigns for all titles including creating databases, pitching and mailouts
  • Creating press releases and marketing materials such as advance proofs
  • Planning and running author tours and events
  • Running social media channels including Twitter and Instagram and building audiences
  • Managing our website and writing marketing newsletters
  • Managing internal communications and liaising with sales teams
  • Updating systems and managing metadata
  • Building and updating contact databases
  • Liaising with and communicating with independent booksellers
  • Overseeing the brand and building brand awareness
  • The role is 2-3 days a week, with the potential to expand in the future

Essential skills include:

  • Industry experience (3 years minimum)
  • Good awareness of Daunt Books Publishing titles and a commitment to literary fiction and non-fiction, with a sharp commercial eye
  • Highly efficient, organised and proactive
  • Excellent publicity contacts
  • Highly proficient across digital platforms
  • Imagination and flair, with an ability to work creatively and ambitiously within small budgets
  • Confident and professional when working with authors and agents
  • Highly responsible and able to work independently
  • Creative marketing and administrative skills, with an eye for design and attention to detail
  • An energetic and flexible approach to work, with an ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in using digital systems such as Mailchimp and WordPress
