Sales Director (trade), London

Our client, a long established independent publishing Company seeks a new Sales Director to manage their UK trade sales operation reporting to the MD.

As Sales Director, you’ll be managing a growing established business and run a successful sales team operation.

The Company sells a very broad range of trade imprints across both adult and childrens books, including some leading publishing brand names.

The current Sales Director is moving abroad after many years at the Company, and they now seek someone who has the ambition and drive to take the business to the next level. Someone who seeks an exciting hands-on role where they will have the influence to make a real difference to the business.

In our view, this role wouldn’t really suit someone looking for a more corporate publishing post, as working for this independent publishing company requires a more hands-on and flexible sales approach.

You’ll be leading the management of the trade and non-trade key accounts, managing the key 3rd party relationships, and oversee the sales team and the commercial negotiations with customers.

An important first part of the role is to take the lead on reviewing the current sales operation and management systems to make recommendations and improvements where necessary to the MD.  

For this role, you’ll need broad and recent experience of UK trade sales at either mid to senior level. You’ll also need excellent key account management experience, plus the ability to manage a number of 3rd party relationships, you’ll possess a respected reputation within trade books and be able to work under pressure.
