Who we are and what we do

We are Head of Zeus, an independent publishing house dedicated to beautiful books and great storytelling. Head of Zeus opened for business on 3 January 2012, won Digital Business of the Year in 2015 and Independent Publisher of the Year in 2017.  Our list is a mix of general and literary fiction, genre fiction and non-fiction, with some illustrated non-fiction.  In 2016, we launched Aria, a digital fiction imprint, and in 2017, we started a children’s imprint, Zephyr. We are committed to publishing all our authors in print, digital and audio formats.   

Our authors include Dan Jones, Michelle Paver, Fintan O’Toole, Paul Merton, Mariella Frostrup, Min Jin Lee, Nadine Dorries, Sally Gardner, Cixin Liu, Marcus Sedgwick, J.S. Monroe, Dani Atkins, Terry Goodkind, Ron Chernow, Graham Hurley and Adrian Goldsworthy.

A newly created role has become available due to the expansion of our Marketing and Publicity departments.

What you’ll be doing

Your role will be to create and implement publicity campaigns for allocated titles in order to maximise sales and raise the profile of our authors, brands and titles. You will also coordinate awards submissions and handle publicity admin and general enquiries.  Working across all Head of Zeus imprints, you will:

  • build and maintain high quality relationships with authors, agents and media
  • handle all aspects of book publicity, including writing publicity plans and press releases; creating proof and review mailing lists; pitching for features and interviews; coordinating blog tours; organising book launches and author events; logging and reporting progress and confirmed activity
  • liaise closely with editorial, sales and marketing colleagues in the UK and other territories to ensure comprehensive campaigns across all platforms
  • manage budgets for campaign activity
  • organise and accompany authors to publicity events within the UK
  • have good working knowledge of social media, working with the marketing and editorial team to create content and build communities around imprints and brands
  • organise submissions for all relevant book awards and other industry opportunities like World Book Night and media book clubs

Who we’re looking for

The ideal candidate will be passionate about books; have good understanding of the publishing industry; have built some great media contacts; be proactive, bringing creativity and enthusiasm to the role; possess exceptional communication skills and be highly organised.  They will have experience pitching to and working with media and event organisers, with a background in publicity.
