What you will be doing

Hodder Education has a great opportunity for a Head of Content Management, managing multi-site and experienced teams across editorial, design and picture research and as a key part of the Operations team supporting the whole Division. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the scheduling and delivery of our content in multiple formats through best practice processes and in tight collaboration with colleagues in commissioning and production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To be a leader and champion for Content Management across the business,
  • Responsible for the provision of a full content management service, including timely delivery of manuscripts and finished designs for handover to production.
  • Responsible for the full process for content management, design and picture research developing and maintaining processes, tools, technology and workflows to ensure that content operations are flexible, scalable, reliable and effective through a culture of continuous improvement.
  • To recruit, train and develop the editorial, design and picture research teams.
  • To establish and improve KPIs and related metrics that both track performance against team objectives and facilitate corrective action.
  • To actively manage content development resources across publishing lists as priorities shift, monitoring expenditure against origination budgets and reporting on variances.
  • To strategically manage independent contractors and vendors.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate is likely to be a manager with first-hand experience of editorial workflows and processes gained in a publishing (ideally education) setting. You will be commercial yet driven to deliver the very best products fit for our diverse customer and market requirements. You will have the ability to inspire and develop the editorial team to deliver a best-in-class service to the Division. Proven experience of managing and adapting print and digital workflows would be useful. Strong numeracy and problem-solving capabilities are a given. Experience of leading or participating in team change initiatives would be ideal.
