IOP Publishing is seeking enthusiastic and commercially-aware publishing professionals to support the development of our prestigious physics journals programme.
About the role:
As Associate Publisher / Publisher you will contribute to the management and development of IOP Publishing’s highly-regarded journals programme. Through close engagement with the international scientific community, you will identify opportunities to enhance editorial quality and output and then translate these into action in close collaboration with colleagues across the company.
You will need to combine an understanding of scientists’ research communication needs with the ability to use quantitative data to inform the development of publishing plans and proposals. You will need to be able to communicate information clearly and effectively, and a proactive, customer-focused attitude will be crucial for the role.
A background in physics is not essential, but the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a good understanding of scientific journals publishing and have an interest in trends and developments in science. Demonstrating the ability to familiarise yourself with new subjects and markets quickly will be a definite advantage, and all candidates should be able to manage multiple priorities and focus on achieving tangible outcomes.

Applicants should demonstrate:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a scientific field
- Previous experience in STM journals or books publishing
- Business acumen, ideally with experience working with journal financial accounts and business plans
- Exceptional communication and networking skills
- Willingness to travel to meetings and conferences worldwide
