Rights role (Mandarin Chinese speaker)

We’re looking for a Mandarin Chinese speaker to fill a full-time rights role at Manager, Executive or Assistant level: we want to find the right individual and we are flexible about their level of experience.

Impressive rights and co-edition sales to China and beyond were a key reason we were named Children’s Publisher of the Year at the 2019 British Book Awards. This is your opportunity to be part of and contribute to our success in this fast-moving, fascinating, international area of our business.

Purpose of the Job:

The Rights team consists of a Senior Rights Manager, a Rights Manager and a Rights Assistant. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Rights Manager and will work specifically on the Chinese market, as well as other markets. The level of autonomy will depend on the abilities and experience of the individual who best fits our hardworking, friendly team. The candidate will probably travel to China two to three times a year.

Key responsibilities and tasks will range from pitching books to foreign customers, negotiating deals, liaising with customers on new publishing projects and liaising with our Design and Production departments to coordinate large co-edition print runs to creating rights appointment schedules for book fairs and sales trips, sending out follow-up material after the fairs and providing administrative support as required by the Rights department.

Depending on your level of experience we can provide you with a more detailed description of the role upon application.

Key skills, characteristics and capabilities:

  • Perfect written and spoken English combined with strong communication skills
  • Good written and spoken Mandarin Chinese
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to multitask and prioritise tasks
  • The ability to work confidently under pressure
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Selling skills
  • Strong numeracy skills
  • Strong interest in publishing, particularly children’s books
  • Ideally some experience of, or exposure to, rights work in a publishing company or an agency

The successful candidate will have the right to live and work in the UK.

To apply, please email your CV, accompanied by a covering letter of no longer than 500 words, to Michela Pea (michela@nosycrow.com) with the subject heading Rights role, telling us where you heard about the job and for what level you would like your application to be considered.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 1 March at midnight (UK time).
