ABOUT THE ROLE

The rights and licensing team within the sales department is responsible for licensing OUP academic content to customers globally. Our mission is to generate digital revenue for our books and journals and ensure global dissemination of OUP’s intellectual property.

This varied role will suit a self-motivated and self-led individual who has a customer-focused approach. Reporting to the Senior Business Development Manager, you will join our existing high-achieving and busy team whilst liaising with those in operations, licensing, editorial and marketing.

You will be responsible for managing existing customer relationships, actively seeking out and identifying leads, negotiating prices and contract business terms and acting swiftly to close new content-licensing opportunities.

Core duties include:

  • Researching business opportunities online and identifying market opportunities and content gaps
  • Making contact with new leads through calls or visits
  • Account management (calls and emails) for existing customers, to offer new content, and update agreements
  • Identifying customer needs and offering content solutions
  • Maintaining and developing stakeholder relationships
  • Liaising with editorial and marketing for their assistance with product knowledge
  • Negotiating prices and royalties in line with general OUP policy
  • Managing sales pipeline using industry-standard systems
  • Working with the licensing manager and Legal team to discuss contract terms
  • Working with the Compliance team to ensure adherence with organisational policy.

CANDIDATES NEED TO DEMONSTRATE THEY HAVE:

Essential:

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and colleagues
  • Experience of generating and building on new opportunities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
  • A positive, resilient attitude
  • Ability to proactively manage workload and be an effective, organised independent worker whilst being able to work as part of a team
  • A customer-focused approach, and be an active listener
  • Meticulous attention to detail

Desirable:

  • Sales, licensing, or business development experience
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of academic and corporate markets
  • Evidence of building long-term relationships with third parties.

This role is a full time, permanent role. Once established in the role the post holder will be able to work from home once per week.
