Epigeum, part of Oxford University Press, is an innovative and dynamic publisher of online courses and programmes for the global Higher Education markets. We build our courses in conjunction with leading experts and universities around the world.

Our publishing programme is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Commissioning Editor to continue developing our portfolio of interactive online courses aimed at researchers, teachers and students in Higher Education.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role you will oversee the continued development of our portfolio of online courses, with particular focus on the Teaching and Development, and Studying strands, in conjunction with the Director of Publishing and Learning Design.

Responsibilities will include:

  • COMMISSIONING AND LIST MANAGEMENT: Input into the strategic vision for the portfolio in conjunction with the Director of Publishing and Learning Design, ensuring we build on our strengths, capitalise on market opportunities, and mitigate risks.
  • MARKET RESEARCH: Conduct market research into trends and decision drivers in Higher Education to inform future publishing and frame the publishing plan.
  • CONTENT DEVELOPMENT: Create and ensure the delivery of the strategic vision for the course, paying particular attention to learning outcomes, pedagogy, assessment items and user experience to ensure the final courses meet the needs of the market.
  • PEOPLE: Identify and bring onboard leading experts, building sustainable, productive relationships using effective negotiating and influencing skills. Maintain excellent relationships with colleagues in editorial, sales, marketing, implementation and production to ensure on-time publication and optimal sales.
  • FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Manage the financial performance of projects such that commercial considerations are carefully evaluated and each project delivers to budget.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Work with colleagues to drive the project milestones, overcome challenges, and oversee the workflow to ensure timely publication.
  • MARKET DEVELOPMENT: Work closely with marketing, sales and implementation teams to share product information and refine marketing messages.
  • ENHANCE THE EPIGEUM BRAND: be a champion for your products, internally and externally, and represent Epigeum at conferences, on campus, and in all other external interactions such that you promote and strengthen the brand at all times.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you must:

  • Have proven experience of list and portfolio management and experience of signing products and services that respond to the needs of the market
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness and an ability to identify and capitalise on opportunities
  • Have proven experience of significantly developing content and delivering products that achieve their strategic aim and meet the needs of the market
  • Have proven experience of signing key subject experts and demonstrate strong author management skills
  • Be a strong project manager, with experience of driving schedules and overcoming challenges, and demonstrate excellent organisational and decision-making skills
  • Be persuasive, and negotiate effectively with people at all levels
  • Have strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Have experience of managing and developing team members

  • Demonstrate first-class communication skills
  • Have a proven track record of gathering, analysing, and synthesising market information to inform publishing decisions
  • Have a demonstrable ability to shape content and pedagogy for the education sector
  • Understand the principles of eLearning and pedagogical approaches
  • Have meticulous attention to detail
  • Have a proactive and flexible approach

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience of publishing digital courses or online resources
  • Awareness of trends and developments in e-learning
  • Understanding of trends in Higher Education
