OUP Journals is a dynamic publishing division located in Oxford and New York. OUP currently publishes around 60 fully open access journals in science and medicine, many in collaboration with learned societies, and has a total journals portfolio of more than 450 titles.

To expand our commitment to researchers, OUP will be launching a series of high-quality open access journals. We are seeking a visionary and dynamic publisher to lead this initiative. The Executive Publisher, Open Access Journals, will have the unique opportunity to shape a prominent new programme in vibrant fields of research - biomedical, life sciences, physical sciences and social sciences - and lead the OUP open access journals editorial team according to his or her creative vision and supported by thorough market research of authors’ needs.

The Executive Publisher will research and create a programme of high-impact journals grounded in a strong understanding of the different fields and the needs of authors, readers, and reviewers. S/he will be responsible for defining the aims, format, and business plans for the journals, building a strong network of leading researchers working in relevant areas, recruiting Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Boards, and ensuring the quality and value of the journals as forums for the best work across the relevant fields.

This position requires a journals publishing background and broad scientific interests. The successful candidate will demonstrate dedication to serving the research community, enthusiasm for communicating research to a broad readership, and the ability to lead the editorial team and launch new journals. A postdoctoral degree in a science related subject would be an advantage. Previous journals editorial and management experience is essential. The key qualities we look for are breadth of interest and knowledge in journals publishing, the ability to work closely with academics to develop new products, strong communication skills, leadership ability, and teamwork.

The Executive Publisher will also have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build a broad network of contacts, domestically and internationally. The Executive Publisher will be responsible for managing the open access publishing team and will collaborate with internal colleagues in production, digital, marketing and sales.
