The publicity department at Oxford University Press consists of a global team of fifteen publicists working on a wide array of subjects within Oxford’s trade publishing program and also high profile breaking news stories out of our journals division. We run campaigns for books ranging from economics, politics, and current affairs to gender studies, literature, and music to science, environment, religion, philosophy and everything in between. About the role

Reporting to the Publicity Manager you will liaise with Authors, managing publicity campaigns and events for a range of books, including titles in the Very Short Introduction series, the Great Battles series, and the Oxford World Classics series.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage book campaigns from beginning to end, including booking one-off events, radio, podcast, and television interviews, pitching for reviews and interviews both in print and online
  • Communicate with authors, editorial and marketing staff about publicity achieved and reporting on individual titles at marketing meetings
  • Identify the best and most appropriate audience for assigned titles and compiling media lists accordingly, pitching books and authors to all appropriate venues
  • Pitch seasonal list to key media (i.e. media visits/lunches) with a senior team member
  • Maintain and foster media contacts through research and in person meetings
  • Research and write press releases, pitch letters, and other publicity materials
  • Work with the Publicity Manager to plan publicity campaigns
  • Work with Publicity Manager to manage individual campaign budgets.

Please note: This role’s official title is Associate Publicist as per the JD.

Essential:

  • Familiarity with key print and electronic book contacts
  • Confidence with dealing with the media and authors, being able to communicate effectively
  • Excellent writing skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Desirable:

  • Book publicity experience
  • Willingness to travel within the UK to events.
