Commissioner, Photography & Tech, Ilex
£35,000 – £45,000 per annum dependent on experience
Who we are and what we do
Octopus Publishing Group is an award-winning, non-fiction publisher producing titles on a wide range of subjects including food and wine, health and wellbeing, fashion and design, gardening and popular science.
The Ilex imprint has achieved an international reputation as a publisher of high-quality illustrated titles aimed at an international market. Dedicated to creativity in all its forms, the Ilex list covers everything from practical art and photography titles to trend-lead gift books. A major partnership with the Tate is a key new initiative.
What you’ll be doing
You will be commissioning and publishing a commercially focused list in the areas of practical photography, new tech and some photographic surveys – suitable for a broad range of markets. Keeping close to market trends, you will nurture and develop existing authors and seek out the top talent in the field to create the best books on any given subject, while also revisiting and reinvigorating backlist titles. Working collaboratively with PR and sales, you will champion your books from acquisition through to successful publication.
Who we’re looking for
Reporting to the Ilex Publisher, and working closely with our Art Director and editorial team, you will have a strong knowledge of the subject area and be expected to bring your own vision and ideas to the role, commissioning a range of titles that can sell around the world. You will have confidence, international awareness, commercial acuity and some experience of commissioning illustrated books. Ability to juggle deadlines and priorities to ensure the smooth running of your list will also be key.
What we offer
This role is based at our riverside London office, as part of a friendly, creative team and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Hachette employs people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.
