The Orion Publishing Group, part of Hachette UK, is looking for a Press Officer to join the company’s dynamic publicity team. The role will require a creative, enthusiastic, and well-organised person who is really committed to the job and will relish the opportunity to work on a diverse range of titles.
The lists associated with this role cover a full range of fiction and non-fiction. We are the publishers of The Hairy Bikers, Fearne Cotton, Davina McCall, Liz Earle, Michel Roux Jr, Sarah Millican, Henry Marsh, Antonia Fraser, Simon Sebag Montefiore, Tina Brown, Ian Rankin, Laura Barnett, Gillian Flynn and Carlos Ruiz Zafón.
You will already be working in the publicity department of a book publishing company. We are looking for someone with outstanding communication skills, both written and spoken, who works well as part of a close knit team. A confident self-starter, you will thrive in a busy environment and will and enjoy developing innovative approaches to building author profiles.
Creating and implementing publicity campaigns across all media channels (including social media), you will also organise and attend a range of events, including literary festivals and signings, sometimes at weekends. In addition, you will write press releases, oversee the production of publicity material and build strong working relationships with authors, agents and colleagues in sales, editorial, rights and marketing.
It is important that applicants have a real interest in all areas of the publishing process and an understanding of the key role PR can have in driving book sales and raising authors’ profiles. You must also demonstrate exceptional author care, excellent interpersonal skills, as well as a real desire to broaden their contacts into new areas and to engage and inspire the widest possible audience.
If you are someone with proven experience within a publicity department, either at Press Officer level or as an experienced assistant looking to take the next step, and able to demonstrate your flair for publicity and a solid network of established contacts across the media, we would like to hear from you. You will be joining an energetic, fun and successful team in a company that offers excellent benefits.
