This is a rare opportunity for a pro-active, commercial commissioning editor to shape a new generation of non-fiction books at Viking.
At Viking -- Imprint of the Year in 2018 and shortlisted again in 2019 – we love publishing books that combine brilliant writing with popular appeal, that hit the bestseller lists, create news stories, change opinion, win prizes and shed light on the world around us. Part of Penguin General – Publisher of the Year in 2019 – our authors include Nimco Ali, Antony Beevor, Susan Cain, Jonathan Dimbleby, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Will Gompertz, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ben Macintyre, Michelle Obama, Iggy Pop, Claire Tomalin and Linda Yueh.
As Commissioning Editor, you will commission, edit and publish around 8-10 books a year, across subjects potentially including politics, memoir, popular culture, sport, and film/TV tie-ins, and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the publication on each book. Ideally you will have published bestsellers already as an Editor, and will be hungry now to build your own stellar list on the biggest canvas possible.
You will be creative and innovative, reliable and unflappable. You will have the confidence to pro-actively commission books, articulate a vision for them, give authors matchless author care and work with a wide range of colleagues to make high-quality books that reach new audiences. You will have excellent editorial, copy-writing, organisational and interpersonal skills. And, of course, you will have a genuine passion for books, ideas, stories, and our kind of publishing.
If this sounds like you please apply with your CV and Cover Letter, as well as three ideas for non-fiction books for Viking, and in no more than 100 words, your biography, by Friday 28th June.
