Editorial Director (Maternity cover), Penguin Press

An opportunity has arisen for an Editorial Director to join Penguin Press to cover a period of maternity leave for up to approximately 9 months. This role is based at our offices on the Strand, London.

Penguin Press is a leading publisher of titles ranging from lasting works on economics, science, history and politics to poetry, illustrated books and bestsellers such as The Uninhabitable Earth, Why We Sleep and 12 Rules for Life. Penguin Press is made up of the Allen Lane, Pelican, Particular Books, Poetry and Penguin Classics imprints.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative and dynamic Editorial Director to project manage a large list of exceptional non-fiction authors belonging to one of Penguin Press’s Publishing Directors.

In this role you will publish primarily across our Allen Lane and Pelican lists. An interest in a wide range of ideas and narrative-driven non-fiction, from psychology to tech, science to politics, is a must.

You’ll need the skills to mould and manage a book at every stage of its life, from shaping the manuscript to overseeing the publication and way beyond. You’ll be great at working with our in-house team to develop each book’s publicity and marketing strategy, its positioning, copy and design, as well as being adept at communicating with authors and agents. Most importantly, you’ll be imaginative, able to lead, to question and to collaborate.
