Key Account Manager, Penguin General

How could you contribute to the ongoing growth and success of Penguin General?

Penguin General is a leading publisher with a broad and dynamic list of authors from established names like John le Carre and Antony Beevor, to bestsellers Ali Smith and Robert Macfarlane to commercial brands like Dinah Jefferies and Cara Hunter. Our Penguin Life and Penguin Business lists include names like Dr Ranjan Chatterjee, Ruby Wax and Simon Sinek. We are also the publishing home of Michelle Obama and President Obama.

We’re looking for an agile and enthusiastic Key Account Manager with experience across online and high street retailers. The role looks after our online customers and Waterstones non-fiction.

You’ll have responsibility for online sales strategy across print, eBook and audio and will manage the relationships with Amazon, Apple, Audible and our other online retailers.  You’ll need a strong interest in online commerce, marketing and pricing, and a curious and entrepreneurial brain. You’ll be strongly motivated to drive and optimise sales revenue across frontlist and backlisttitles, increase visibility for our authors and be able to communicate data and expertise back to your colleagues.

In the Waterstones part of the role, you’ll work very closely with this major retailer and help champion a wide variety of books from The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read to Underland, from Fresh India to The Cost of Living. You’ll be great at building strong relationships at every single level of the Waterstones business.

The ideal candidate must be very sales driven and will be able to identify opportunities which will play to both Penguin General’s and Waterstones’ core strengths. Be it working with the retailer on future bestsellers or bringing to life a backlist title.

You’ll have a strong sales background, with experience managing key accounts with UK retailers. You’ll have excellent and broad fiction and non-fiction market knowledge and will be confident in your ability to drive strategy internally and influence and inform senior stakeholders. Most importantly, you’ll be imaginative and full of ideas; able to question and to collaborate. A great team player is crucial in this role.

If you’re interested, please apply with a CV and Cover Letterby midnight on Monday 29th April 2019.
