The Picador imprint group, which includes Macmillan Collector’s Library, sits within the Macmillan Adult Division and has an international reputation as one of the leading publishers of literary fiction, serious non-fiction and poetry in the UK and globally. 

An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Publisher to lead and grow our prize-winning literary publishing, reporting into Jeremy Trevathan, Publisher of the Macmillan Adult Division.

We’re looking for someone with a proven track record in literary fiction and serious non-fiction publishing, with commercial flair and an ability to shape a profitable P&L and enable others to do the same, an understanding of UK and international market needs, and an ability to spot an opportunity and move quickly to capitalize on it. 

The position will involve:

  • Responsibility for representing the Picador imprints internally and externally

  • Responsibility for the commercial performance of the Picador P&L, achieving or exceeding targets.

  • Responsibility for the imprints’ publishing strategies and investment priorities, including generating, developing, presenting, costing, negotiating and galvanizing people around new ideas, projects and authors.

  • Providing leadership and management of the editorial team and direct reports, including promoting a collaborative spirit and an outward looking culture.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience in a senior role within the publishing industry.

  • Experience of leading and managing creative teams

  • A proven track record of publishing commercial successes, not necessarily from an editorial background

  • Good connections with the agent and author communities

  • High profile and reputation within the trade and the agent community
